Sorcerers are much more durable and can lock groups in place with Vaccuum Extreme. Warlocks can only store so many spells and their HP is so bad they easily get one-shot by every other class. Everyone is forced to wear fire armor or get destroyed. Rune knights spam dragon breath, which is so powerful it defines the War of Emperium metagame. I also participated in USRC, a cross-server tournament that offers glory and prizes to the winner, and a possible trip to RWC to compete internationally. Heh.įirst day of the Thor's Volcano patch when no one actually knew how strong anything would be. Overall we made buttloads of zeny from this though. IRO's first anniversary event, which I most definitely exploited, but not as much as I could have. At least with the new server I am actually running into old friends once again, even if I have to start over from scratch. I had already spent a long time away from the game before I came back to level my mains, but gave up pretty much right after changing jobs because the game just stopped being interesting. These were my mains before I quit playing Renewal. Pretty much every official server is now running on its own modified mechanics to please their playerbases after Renewal pretty much flopped around like a dead fish. Their heals just don't scale well with the overhauled heal formula and larger HP caps, and the nerfing of safety wall. Archbishops got shafted the most, merely receiving AoEs of existing spells. jRO had similar concerns about the absolute decimation of class balance with the arrival of 3rds, where magic users were far and away inferior to well. I agree 3rd classes were a disaster, and I think Gravity (the US one, not the Korean one) realized that too, hence the new 3rd-less server running on the old game mechanics. I made a mage, though I reserved names for my other core set of characters. Once a character is created you can always access them, which means you technically can play for free forever once that character is made, though the slot becomes locked again if you delete a character. Currently you can make characters for free, but the current VIP server requires you to pay a fee to unlock character slots. The new "Classic" server is free to play, though it might have gated "VIP" entry in the future. Does anybody else still find this game interesting? Does anybody else even PLAY the official servers? The game is like 11 years old now but still holds up from some very skill-driven gameplay. Overall the game is a cute, Korean Diablo-esque style game with 2d sprites mixed with 3d maps on a top-down grid perspective. They also culled most of the cash shop for the new server and removed a lot of the gear that broke the game. Recently they opened a brand-new server that is pre-trans and currently set to 10.3 spawns that has been totally nostalgic and got rid of the new "Renewal" mechanics, so mages are no longer saddled with fixed cast times and stats increase in power exponentially. Anyway, I specifically play iRO, the official North American server. I haven't been huge into Ragnarok Online in years, but I used to be a really avid player.
